DENVER – Colorado Ballet will light up the stage with The Nutcracker, November 24 through December 24, 2012 at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.  This holiday favorite features classic choreography by Marius Petipa paired with Tchaikovsky's score performed live by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra.

This year’s production marks the 52nd year that Colorado Ballet’s The Nutcracker has been a part of Colorado’s holiday celebration.

“A cornerstone of holiday performances and a family tradition, The Nutcracker is a must see for children and adults alike,” said Colorado Ballet Artistic Director Gil Boggs.  “First brought to life 120 years ago, this timeless story continues to transport audiences to an idyllic holiday world filled with sweets, presents and beautiful adventures.”

The Nutcracker features unforgettable characters and dazzling costumes with scenery by José Varona.  More than 90 students from the Colorado Ballet Academy will join Colorado Ballet’s professional company on stage as polichinelles, party children, soldiers, angels, and sugarplums.
