Colorado Ballet's Enchanting Production of The Nutcracker Ushers in the Holiday Season in Denver

Rachel Maurer - Nov. 17, 2011

DENVER—Nov. 17, 2011 – Colorado Ballet will light up the stage at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House with its holiday classic, The Nutcracker, for 26 performances this season.  Opening Nov. 26 and running through Dec. 24, this year’s production marks the 51st year that Colorado Ballet’s The Nutcracker has been a part of Denver’s holiday celebration.

A classic in every sense, Colorado Ballet’s annual production of The Nutcracker is a favorite among dance-lovers who are awed by the masterful choreography after Petipa and by Tchaikovsky’s enchanting score performed by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra. Children are entranced by the larger-than-life holiday magic. The Nutcracker is the perfect holiday family tradition.

The set of Colorado Ballet’s The Nutcracker is a dazzling spectacle of glittering snowflakes, shimmering sugarplums and unforgettable characters. “Colorado Ballet’s The Nutcracker performed by Denver’s own professional ballet company along with the Colorado Ballet Orchestra is a stunning, must-experience event,” stated Artistic Director Gil Boggs.

Joining Colorado Ballet’s talented cast will be 70 young dancers from the Colorado Ballet Academy. This annual production gives these young performers their chance in the spotlight as Polichinelles, Party Children, Soldiers and Angels. Colorado Ballet boasts a mesmerizing cast that includes young Academy students through seasoned Principal dancers.

Much gratitude is given to KeyBank, Colorado Ballet’s presenting sponsor for the 2011 production of The Nutcracker. KeyBank’s generous gift will provide patrons with more than just a performance. Audiences will be transported from the Land of Snow to the Land of Sweets.
