Sanya Andersen-Vie - March 18, 2014
Metropolitan State University of Denver, Center for Visual Art (CVA) in collaboration with Colorado Ballet Education and Outreach will host 13 Colorado Ballet Academy dancers ages 10 to 15 for a week-long dance and art-making residency. The week will culminate in live performances at the Center for Visual Art on April 4, 2014.
In response to the theme of collaboration in CVA’s Making Contact exhibition, students will work with MSU Denver Assistant Professor and artist Kelly Monico to create costumes that both project and screen video. They will shoot and edit video footage that will become integral to their costumes and the set. Students will then develop choreography with Colorado Ballet Director of Outreach Instruction Marlene Strang and dance instructor Stephanie Koltiska to create an original dance work that they will perform on First Friday, April 4.
Making Contact: A Dance Experiment will feature a blending of modern dance and contemporary visual art. The performances will take place at 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on April 4, 2014. These performances are free and open to the public.
