Though the acronym “SCFD” is hard to memorize, the value of The Scientific and Cultural Facilities District is unforgettable. Through a voter-approved tax, a penny of sales tax on every $10 purchase in Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties funds arts and cultural organizations.
Since 1996, every school, more than 900 public and non-public schools within the seven county area, has been served with programming and opportunities from the SCFD. That means the SCFD is in your neighborhood! But its programming isn’t just for children; this funding allows organizations to offer adult education seminars and lectures in museums, local theater, free days at the Denver Botanic Gardens and programs in community centers all over town. From the Denver Zoo to Colorado Ballet, the SCFD, which was reauthorized in November of 2004, is making an impact on your community and making Colorado a better place to live!
