Colorado Ballet closes 54th season

With the final performance of Colorado Ballet's 2014-2015 season taking place on Sunday, we close our 54th season. We thank all of our patrons and supporters for this amazing season that included A Midsummer Night's Dream, Dracula, The Nutcracker, Ballet MasterWorks and Peter and the Wolf.  We look forward to the 2015-2016 season, which will include La Sylphide, The Nutcracker, Alice (in Wonderland) and Ballet Director's Choice. ..


Peter and the Wolf - the music behind the characters

In Colorado Ballet's upcoming production of Peter and the Wolf, each character in the story has a particular musical instrument and theme in Prokofiev's familiar musical score.  In the ballet, the Bird is the flute, the Cat is the clarinet, the Duck is the oboe and the Grandfather is the bassoon.  Other characters have multiple instruments, for example, Peter's theme is made up of string instruments including the violin, viola, cello and bass.  The Wolf's theme is played by French horns and the Hunters are woodwind instruments, with a few percussion instruments including the timpani and bass drum. ..
