Colorado Ballet Auxiliary

Monday, August 07, 2017

The Colorado Ballet Auxiliary is dedicated to the support of one of the nation’s premier dance companies. Established in 1986, the Auxiliary is a vital cultural force in the arts community. Through its programs, the Auxiliary solely benefits Colorado Ballet by promoting support and appreciation of ballet. Its primary goals include developing future audiences through children’s programs, and providing financial support for dance opportunities in schools throughout the metropolitan region.

The Sugarplum program is a memorable tradition for second grade girls and a long-standing social event in Denver. A season of fun, friendship, and ballet appreciation culminates with The Sugarplum Ball followed by an on-stage presentation at the Colorado Ballet’s magical performance of The Nutcracker. There are many group activities for the Sugarplums including the mother-daughter tea, an ice skating outing with their dads, a holiday party and the Sugarplum Ball.

The Sugarplum Alum program continues as part of the Sugarplum program. During this second year of the Sugarplum program, these third grade girls attend The Sugarplum Ball and actually perform on stage in one of the Colorado Ballet’s performances of The Nutcracker.

Third, fourth and fifth grade students enjoy the magic of ballet by attending three performances during the season. The students build friendships while learning about the ballet through discussions with ballet staff and educational programs.

Backstage is the Auxiliary’s program for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. Backstage provides a unique opportunity for the kids to connect with Colorado Ballet’s professional dancers, have fun with their peers in social activities, participate in behind the scenes programs and attend three Colorado Ballet performances.

Ballet Ambassadors is the Auxiliary’s program for high school students, grades 9-12. This program is not gender specific. The Ballet Ambassadors program is designed to meet the graduation requirements for community service of high school age students. The activities of the Ambassadors are driven by the needs of the Colorado Ballet Auxiliary and Colorado Ballet programs. The Ballet Ambassadors will have the opportunity to be involved in premiere Auxiliary events, including the Sugarplum Ball.

Participation in the presentation and education programs require that a parent be or become a member of Colorado Ballet Auxiliary.
